England manager Fabio Capello has told Michael Owen and David Beckham they must play for their respective teams if they are to be considered for his World Cup team.

Both players are highly ranked in the English football record books, but that alone will not merit them a place in Capello’s team in next summers World Cup squad.

The Italian admits that Owen is one of the best players in England, but he needs to feature more for Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United team.

“Micheal Owen is one of the best players in England but if he don’t play then its a  problems for me and England and United,” Capello told SkySports. “He scored a hat-trick (in the Champions League), but only played the second half of the next game.”

Capello also warned that former Manchester United star Beckham who is on lone with Serie A side AC Milan must also play regularly if he is to be a member of the World Cup team.

“I will check on all the place before I decide the squad,” the boss said. “Its important for Beckham to play with AC Milan or he will not play with us.”
