MIAMI, Fla — Veronica Campbell-Brown has set her sights on competing at next year’s World Indoor athletics Championships in Doha.
Under the guidance of a new coach for the upcoming season, the Jamaican sprint superstar is hoping to make a return to the indoor campaign after making her last appearance in 2006 where she enjoyed a successful term.
“I haven’t run indoors in a long time and since it will be a lighter year, meaning there will not be any major outdoor championships, my management and I have decided it would be good to have some fun indoors,” she said.
And if she is selected by Jamaica to represent the Caribbean island in Doha, it would be her first time at the three day championships, which will run this term from March 12-14.
Despite a few injuries setbacks in the 2009 season, Campbell-Brown still managed to win a silver medal in the 200m at the Berlin world championships, prior to recently changing her coach and training-base – moving from Florida to Atlanta.
The 27-year-old had a split with long-time coach Lance Brauman after six years and has joined some of her fellow Jamaicans at the training camp of Anthony Carpenter.
Last year she defended her 200 metres title at the Olympic Games in Beijing, China, adding to the gold she won at the 2004 Games. She also won the gold medal over the 100m at the world championships in Osaka, Japan, in 2007.
Other top sprinters looking forward to the upcoming season are American Carmelita Jeter and Antigua’s Daniel Bailey who trains with world record holder and world and Olympic sprint champion Usain Bolt under Glen Mills in Kingston, Jamaica.
