MIAMI, Fla — American Christian Cantwell has is sights set on defending his World Indoor Shot Put title at next year’s championships in Doha, his manager said.
Cantwell, the reigning champion from the last championships in Valencia, Spain in 2008 and gold medal winner at the 2004 competition in Budapest, Hungary, is hoping to transfer the rich form from last season that propelled him to a World Outdoor Championships crown.
His manager John Nubani told World-Track earlier this week that the Olympic silver medallist is looking forward to going to the American championships and win another slot to defend his title.
The world indoor championships run from March 12-14 in Doha, next season.
Cantwell enjoyed a very productive season in 2009 — throwing two of the top five best distances (21.47 x2) during the indoor season before heaving five of the top ten best marks in the outdoor campaign.
Three of those five efforts led the top five bests which included the world-leading 22.16m, 22.07m and his 22.03m that won him gold at the IAAF World Championships in Berlin in August.
Meanwhile, another exciting campaign is again in the making with the likes of Cantwell, Poland’s Olympic champion Tomasz Majewski and USA’s former world indoor and outdoor champion Reese Hoffa leading the way.
