MONACO — Jamaica’s World and Olympic sprint stars Usain Bolt and his American arch rival Tyson Gay will race each other at least three times at elite Diamond League meetings next year.
IAAF, the track and field’s governing body said on Saturday that the two fastest men in history are contracted to compete in seven of the 14 cities in Asia, Europe and the United States featured in the inaugural global series.
The rivals must decide which meets will host their showdowns, over 100 or 200 meters.
Gay said “the only thing I know is I will be racing Bolt at least three times or more.”
Former World record holder Asafa Powell of Jamaica has as been contracted to race at the meet.
The new circuit will be the top tier of track and field in 2010 with no Olympics or World Championships on the schedule.
“Every meeting will see at least one of these sprint stars compete, many meetings will have two of them in action and a lucky few will have the three fastest men on show,” said an IAAF statement.
Among the other top stars who have committed to the series are distance runner Kenenisa Bekele, pole vaulters Steve Hooker and Yelena Isinbayeva, 400m runner Sanya Richards, javelin thrower Andreas Thorkildsen and high jumper Blanka Vlasic.

now that mr. tyson gay have had his surgery on his [mysterious] groin injury, he should not have much problem beating usain bolt. ltes face it, the man did 9.69, the second fastest time in history, a national record, on a groin injury, then good lord, do you expect any body to beat him when he gets back on the track? however, one thing is still puzzling me though, and i would very much like someone to help me out on this, tyson gay is the second fastest athlete in the world, he is only 27 years of age, he has a groin injury so severe, it requires surgery and at the end of the track season, he his running the second fastest time in history? if mr, gay can preform like that on a groin injury that required surgery, can you just imagine what he’s going to do on the track come next year, because if im can’t repeat the 9.69 or better it, then he should just as well continue to run with the bad groin, since he performs better on it.
the jamaican athletes should no doubt be the most decorated and celebrated on the track, if you would just reflect back on there achievements when they were juniors. at high school championships, carifta games, the penn relays and the world youth and junior games, they have distinguished themselves with very high level of preformances over the years, clocking superior times over there rivals. but as soon as they becomes professionals and it’s time to get pay and to take home there golds, they are always ambush and robed by some very very large band of STEROID MONKEYS. but now that the IAAF is trying to catch and eradicate them, [THE STEROID MONKEYS] it as bean a little bit better, as you can see from the result of the beijing olympics and the berlin world championship. every now and again you will see one and two of them [THE STEROID MONKEYS] come out to play, but they play very careful because they are awear that… A TRAP HAS BEAN SET FOR THEM.
