BERLIN - Ethiopian star Haile
Gebrselassie, the Two-time Olympic champion in the long distance
will run his next marathon at the 33rd real,- Berlin Marathon on
24 September, organizers announced on Tuesday.
Gebrselassie has been one of
track and field's most fruitful athletes, owning two Olympic
crowns as well as four gold medals in the 10,000m at the World
Championships. He also holds the world record for the distance.
When Gebrselassie line at the
start of the race, he will mark his fifth marathon appearance
for the season. Gebrselassie will enter the field with two world
bests already this year, after running a half marathon world
mark of 58:55 minutes and clocking 1:11:37 hours in a
25-kilometer race.
Defending champion on the
women's side Mizuki Noguchi, the Japanese Olympic women's
marathon champion, will head the women's field in Berlin. Last
year she captured the title in brisk 2:19:12 hours, which was a
new Asian record.
