by Gary Smith

June 1, 2005 - MILAN (World-Track) - Sydney Olympic 4x100m relay gold medallist Chandra Sturrup from the Bahamas registered win number two in as many match-ups with Marion Jones, following her latest  win over the American in the 100-metres at the Grand Prix Regione Lombardia in Milan, Italy on Wednesday.

The men's race saw Jamaica's Patrick Jarrett claiming a surprised win over Britain’s Mark Lewis-Francis, while the in form Dwight Phillips had to settle for fourth place.

Sturrup, a former training partner of Jones clocked 11.42 in a (-1.4 m/s) head-wind to push the triple Olympic gold medallist back into second place at 11.67. Sturrup was celebrating her second win over the American in four days after her 11.15 win at the IAAF Grand Prix in Hengelo, Netherlands on Sunday.

Jarrett surprised his rivals in the men's race to wrap it up in 10.36. Britain's Olympic relay gold medallist Lewis-Francis was close behind at 10.40, while Nigeria's Uchenna Emedolu and Phillips recorded the same time at 10.41 for third and fourth respectively.

Cuba's top sprinter Freddy Mayola still struggling to find his early season form clocked 10.57 for sixth place.

In a down-to-par men's 400m hurdles run, Ockert Cilliers of South African beat fellow countryman Llewellyn Herbert.

None of the eight runners broke 49-sec, but in the end Cilliers' 49.00 was enough to give him the win. Herbert (49.25) and Jamaicans Dean Griffiths (49.45) and Ian Weakley (49.49) rounded off the top four competitors.

In other excitement in Milan, Uganda's Dorcus Inzikuru broke the world record in the women's 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 6:04.46.
