Dimitar Berbatov breaks Bulgaria’s goal scoring record

Dimitar Berbatov made history in Malta on Wednesday night when he bagged two goals in a 4-1 friendly win for Bulgaria.

The United striker’s brace means he’s now scored 48 goals for Bulgaria, making him the country’s all-time leading scorer. The previous record of 47 goals was held for 30 years by Hristo Bonev.

Other friendlies included a meeting between Ji-sung Park, Nemanja Vidic and Zoran Tosic, with the latter two coming out on top as Serbia beat South Korea 1-0 in London, at Fulham’s Craven Cottage ground.

Park completed 70 minutes on his return from injury, while Vidic played for an hour. Both men will now be available for United’s match against Everton on Saturday. “I’m ready to play for United now,” confirmed the Korean.

Elsewhere, Tomasz Kuszczak kept a clean sheet as Poland beat tourists Canada 1-0.

On Tuesday, Oliver Norwood scored his second free-kick in as many games in Northern Ireland U21s’ 2-1 defeat to the Czech Republic. Corry Evans also played the full 90 minutes.

Tom Cleverley could only help England U21s to a goalless draw in Lithuania, while Federico Macheda was an unused substitute in Italy U21s’ 4-0 win in Luxembourg.
