MADRID, Spain — Cristiano Ronaldo has been a game changer for most of his career, but the Real Madrid star does not believe the team depends solely on him to win games.

Ronaldo, who transferred to the Spanish giants from Manchester United in the summer, has been out of action for two months because of an ankle injury.

He commented that the fact that Real is topping two of the most important tables without his service, is an indication of the overall quality of the squad.

“We are leaders in the two most important competitions, so I don’t think the team depends on me at all,” Ronaldo at a press conference ahead of Sunday’s league clash with Barcelona.

“We are doing well and scoring goals. I’d like to help.

He added: “I’m just concerned about playing well on Sunday and about helping the team. I think we can win with or without me.

But even though Manuel Pellegrini’s men are setting the pace in the La Liga, Ronaldo said they are no clear favourites to win the clash.

“I always think there are no favourites,” the Portugal winger said. “Those who are ambitious must always believe they are the favourites to win.

“We have great respect for our opponent, but we shouldn’t be afraid of them. They are a great team, but I don’t believe either of us is the favourite to win.

The speedy winger, who took sprinting notes from Jamaican world record holder Usain Bolt, returned from a two month setback as a substitute for Real during their 1-0 Champions League win over FC Zurich in midweek.
