LONDON — Nicolas Anelka is hoping to continue on his fine form when he returns to Arsenal, to the club where he won his only Premier League.

On Sunday Anelka will suit up for league leaders Chelsea with the hope of maximising his chances of winning a second Premiership crown at the end of this season.

Chelsea’s win over the struggling Wolves last weekend, coupled with Arsenal’s defeat at Sunderland leaves them eight points adrift in third place, yet Anelka would still be reluctant to rule them out of the title race should we take all three points.

Everything is possible in football, even if you are on top and you are a lot of points in front of everybody,” he said. “We have a big game this weekend, we’ll try to win of course and after that we will continue to focus because every game is important.”

The forward was speaking after the win against Porto, and was able to cast his mind back to 1998 when he was a 19-year-old title winner with Arsenal. The hunger for a second triumph still remains.

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said earlier today that he believes Anelka still loves Arsenal, but even this is true the striker will forget all about the old time for the 90-plus minutes he is on the pitch for game.

“I was glad to win with Arsenal, we had a big team with big players and I hope I’ll do it again. I appreciated it at the time, sometimes you have only one chance in your life and now there is a second chance to win it, we are a big club with big players and I hope we can do it again,” he noted.

[To win the Premier League] means you are at one of the biggest teams in the world and of course I will be happy, I won it 11 years ago and you want to win everything ,even after you win already,’ he continued.’ I had a lot of time to wait to win something again in England, last season I won the Cup and I hope this season we can win the title.

I still have my league medal from Arsenal in France. It is the same level as winning the Champions League, sometimes you only get one chance and I had them earlier in my career.

When I think about it I am very glad, this kind of competition maybe if you are lucky you win it once, but to win either twice would be very good. I cannot choose which because they are both so important.”
