BARCELONA, Spain — Lionel Messi and Zlatan Ibrahimovic have reportedly been cleared by Barcelona to play in Sunday’s El Clasico against the visiting Real Madrid side.
Both Messi and Ibrahimovic who both missed the Champions League group match against Inter Milan last Wednesday, worked out with the full squad on Saturday and will reportedly be available for the top of the table clash.
On Saturday Barcelona‘s boss Pep Guardiola refused to commit to whether or not he will play his star players despite them returning to training.
“The doctors and I will decide on whether they play, they’ve trained pretty well, but there are always risks with muscle injuries and they’ve not been back many days.
“We can win with Messi and without him. He’s a very important player and it’s better for us if he plays, but we’ll have a look at him tomorrow (Sunday) and make our decision.”
According to the latest reports, Messi will now start on the bench, while from all indications Ibrahimovic, who is buzzing to mark his return, will take his place in the starting eleven as one of the strikers.
“It will be a very exciting game, a very interesting game,” said Ibrahimovic said. “I think it will be the game of the year, not only in Spain but worldwide.
“I’m not worried because I know Barcelona are a stronger team. We have players at each position that are world class.”
The game will also see the return of Cristiano Ronaldo, who is expected to come off the bench in the biggest game of his Real career thus far.
Ronaldo, who came on as a substitute against FC Zurich n the Champions League last week, is making a return after being sidelined for two-months with an ankle injury.
“I want to play in the Clasico if I feel good, although that is the reasonability of the coach,” said Ronaldo “In any case, with or without me, the team are first in La Liga and in their Champions League group.
“Good players always have to play. (Against Zurich) I didn’t score, but I hope to do in the following game. It doesn’t bother me if it’s 1-0, 2-0 or 2-1, the important thing is to win.”

Messi plays all over the place. Messi has been part of a Barcelona attack with Eto’o and Henry that has scorched other La Liga defenses to ashes, and he’s close behind Ronaldo. So why exactly do I believe that Ronaldo may be the far better player?
