England boss Fabio Capello is already seizing up himself to name his 23 man squad for the World Cup which will break the hearts of some of his stars.
The Italian technician said he will make his definitive selection on FIFA’s June 1 deadline, after playing his final warm-up game with Japan in Graz two days earlier.
He will bring 28 players to the training camp at Irdnung, near Salzburg in Austria, for the five days ahead of the friendly, before releasing five of them after a assessing the physical and psychological state of all the players.
He said: “My plan is that we will go to the training camp in Austria, for the final week, with 28 players.
“I don’t know if I will have any players in the Champions League final or if they will be fit after that game. We will have to see.
“Then I will decide the final 23 players who will go to South Africa on June 1, 11 days before the opening game.”
He added: “We prepare everything and check everything.
“But I think as a manager you have to understand and see the faces of the players. That is very important.
“The statistics can be good, everything can look good on paper. But sometimes you must make a really cold decision, you have to understand what is really happening in the mind of the players when you speak with them, when we stay together.”
