Arsenal, Newcastle in eight goal thriller
London, England (Sporting Alert) — Arsenal shockingly blew a commanding 4-0 lead at half-time to share the spoils with a determined Newcastle United side at St. James’ Park Saturday.
The Gunners were cruising at time-half after Theo Walcott, Johan Djourou and a brace from Robin van Persie gave the visitors a four goal cushion with only 26-minutes gone in the match.
But Newcastle were determined to gain something at home and Joey Barton started the comeback from the penalty spot in the 69th minute after Arsenal were reduced to 10-man when Abou Diaby got the marching orders in the 50th for an uncalled for incident.
Leon Best, another Barton spot kick and Cheik Tiote finished with two-minutes left in the game completed a the remarkable comeback, which left Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger fuming on the sidelines.
Elsewhere, Louis Saha netted four times in Everton’s 5-3 win over Blackpool in another eight game thriller, while Carlos Tevez scored a hat-trick in Manchester City 3-0 win over West Brom.
Niko Kranjcar scored a late winner for Tottenham to beat Bolton 2-1, Wigan edged Blackburn 4-3, while Aston Villa and Fulham played to a 2-2 draw.
