Bayern Munich’s French ace Franck Ribery doubts whether his club have the quality needed to go on and challenge for the Champions League title.
The German giants progressed to the last 16 as a result of a superb 4-1 win away to Juventus, but Ribery does not expect Bayern to reach the latter stages of the competition.
He told Kicker: “It’s hard to say whether Bayern are strong enough. I feel like our team is good enough to win the Bundesliga and the DFB Pokal.
“However, we’re not good enough to win the Champions League in my opinion. There are only four teams good enough to win it – Chelsea, Manchester United, Barcelona and Real Madrid. We cannot compete with them at the moment.”
Meanwhile, Wolfsburg head coach Armin Veh believes that his side were unlucky not to reach the knockout stages, having lost out in Group B to Manchester United and CSKA Moscow.
Veh commented: “I really can’t accuse the team of doing much wrong. On the whole in the group phase we represented the club well and really would have deserved to progress in the competition.
“We unfortunately just didn’t win enough points.”
