Thierry Henry Says Wayne Rooney Is Now Playing In His Best Position

Ex-Arsenal frontman Thierry Henry believes Wayne Rooney’s red-hot form in front of the net is the result of Sir Alex Ferguson’s role change for the player.

The Manchester United striker is in a rich scoring form at the moment and Henry, who scored 174 Premier League goals before moving to Barcelona, believes the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo opened the doors for the 24-year-old to play in his best position.

“People were having a go at him before because he wasn’t scoring,” said Henry.

“But how can he score when he was running like a nutter to get the ball? When he was arriving in the final third he was not fresh enough to finish, and this year you see the difference.

“If he stays up there for 10 years, he will score goals for 10 years.”

And Rooney himself admitted that a change in position, suggested by Fabio Capello has helped him to score more goals.

“I’m scoring more because I’ve changed my position,” said Rooney.

“I’m now playing more up front, in the middle of the penalty area and it was Capello who suggested this new position.

“Now I know how to move differently in the area.”
