West Ham United have completed a move for South Africa striker Benni McCarthy from Blackburn Rovers.McCarthy, desperate for first team playing time to keep his place in the national team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in his homeland later this summer, signed a two-year contract.
The final fee, however, was undisclosed to the public.
Prior to capturing McCarthy, West Ham failed in their bids to sign former Manchester United star Ruud van Nistelrooy from Real Madrid and Eidur Gudjohnsen.
McCarthy, who admitted that he almost joined West Ham five years ago when he was at FC Porto, revealed that he “would have loved this to be my first Premier League club.”
He scored 37 goals in 109 Premier League matches for Blackburn and has scored 32 goals in 77 matches for South Africa.
